Overview
Google has a program called Google Summer of Code that provides a $5000 stipend to college students for working on specific open source projects over the summer.
This is an interesting program, but it lacks one of the things needed (and craved) by young software developers, and that is the ability to work face to face with others. Face to face interaction is an essential part of the learning process, especially in the early years of a budding career.
SPI’s GSOC Camp kills two birds with one stone. We arrange low-cost lodging and access to our facility where Google Summer of Code participants can work face to face. This provides the participants the benefit of learning faster (as well as enjoying a wonderful summer in Steamboat), and it provides our local tech ecosystem here in Steamboat with access to some budding young software entrepreneurs.
